4 In a Row for Jennings in Lurgan Park

7 Fastest times out of 8 stages ensured a 4th Win on the trot in The Orchard Motorsport Sponsored Lurgan Park Rally  for Garry Jennings.

Being Navigated by His main sponsor, Michael Moran of GO fuels,  in this tight but technical test around the Lurgan Circuit, Jennings Set 7 out of the 8 fastest Stage Times.

Although being pushed all day by “King Of The Park ” and 11 Time winner Kenny McKinstry, it was the Kesh Native who prevailed.

Returning to Rallying after a  disappointing opening day to the recent Donegal International Rally where he retired due to a blown Engine, he  bounced back in typical Jennings Style by taking the grit between the teeth and leaving the competition in his wake.

This might have been All in vain going into the last stage though, as, a cracked casing on his Gearbox meant a nervous few minutes for his mechanics to see could they fix a gear oil leak, which they did, and he roared the Subaru S12B to yet another fastest time around the 1.7mile Circuit.

At the Finish ramp Jennings was in a major rush to get to a County Donegal Hotel for the wedding reception of Fellow Fermanagh Native and Rally Driver, Alastair Fisher.

He was warned by wife Kerry Jennings  “To get up the road as soon as the rally was over – or else” Champagne Celebrations over, it was Destination Donegal.

Runner up Mc Kinstry reminded Jennings that he has a bit to go to Equal his 11 victories in the Lurgan Venue.

In third it was Donegal Cousins Declan and Brian Boyle, in a Ford Fiesta WRC, who reminded me that it wasn’t actually their first time to compete in this venue – they competed in 2006 in their Ford Escort Mk2. But this was their first time in a World Rally Car.  A steady quick run All day Saturday was the plan but changeable weather conditions made tyre choice a lottery and trying to keep up with the pace of Jennings who according to  Declan “That Jennings Fella must know every bump in the Park  – nobody can catch him”

Declan Boyle. 3rd Overall.

They turned their attention after their podium to  matters south of Lurgan Park as they were bound for Trim in County Meath and The A.L.M.C. Rally, which was taking place the following day.

In 4th it was Draperstown native Derek McGeehan in the Mini WRC just Edging out 5th place Derek McGarrity in a Ford Fiesta WRC.

Top NON WRC Finisher was Robert Woodside in the New Breed Ford Fiesta R5, He finished a Very Creditable 6th Overall.
